« on: September 05, 2007, 11:09:36 am »
The Moonlight Fire which started Tuesday 9-3    2:24 PM, was 15 miles south of Susanville, and 35 acres on private land.

Today 9-5 it has 1,000 fire fighters on site with lots more on the way, and has consumed 15,000 acres.
It now is down to only 5% contained,  but at this point no communities are threatened.

To "follow" this fire:  http://web.inciweb.org/incident/978/

Current (9-5 Noon):

Total Personnel    1,000
Size                        15,000 acres
Percent Contained    5%
Fuels Involved
Heavy timber & slash, 80% slopes

Fire Behavior

Extreme fire behavior; active burning with down canyon winds & occasional crown runs. Fire spread primarily to south and SW

Significant Events

Type 1 team with unified command. All highways open; some roads closed within immediate fire vicinity. 15-20 scattered residences evacuated in the Lights Creek Rd. area.

The following two alerts from Butte County Public Safety:

Many of you have written to say that there is a lot of smoke in Magalia and are wondering if there is a fire. I have confirmed with the KHSL news desk that there is no fire in the Magalia area. The smoke you are smelling is due to a shift in the winds from the Moonlight fire which is currently burning to our east.

and

Officials are asking residents to NOT CALL 911 in response to the smoke in the area. The smoke is the result of a shift in the winds overnight which is carrying the smoke and ash from the Moonlight fire to our area. The Moonlight fire is currently burning six miles northeast of Greenville and is not a threat to the Ridge. Please do your part and call those you know on the Ridge to spread the word and relieve the stress on the county 911 system. Thank you.
