Some of you may have received these pages by email from me, some by
snail mail from Lassen N.F., but in case some of you did not receive
them at all here they are.
It is very important that you understand what their thinking and
strategy may be, and that we discuss it and get comments in writing on
or before January 15, 2008 to
Dave Erwin
District Recreation Officer
P.O. Box 767

Feel free to hit reply to this mail, trimming that portion that may be
repetitive, and discuss HERE your thoughts, suggestions, and goals if
they are differing from Lassen N.F.'s, or Friends of The High Lakes
Steering Committee priorities. Or even your agreement.
This is the most important step, so far, in the public information and
feedback arena in what will be our future use of The High Lakes.
TAKE THIS IMPORTANT STEP, for your / our future of recreation.
Here are the pages of the draft plan for your study.

http://www.friendsofthehighlakes.com/draftplan/Draft_High_Lakes_Task_List.xlsHere are pages of an Independent Study done in 2005 by Mark Flannigan,
that in combination with Roger Poff's Hydrologist's report went to make
up the basis for this draft strategy.
http://www.friendsofthehighlakes.com/draftplan/Flannigan_Independent_Study.pdfhttp://www.friendsofthehighlakes.com/draftplan/Flannigan_STELLA.pdfI'm working on getting a better copy of a digitized version of Roger
Poff's 44 page report, and if / when I get that I'll forward to the
list, too.
Friends of The High Lakes Steering Committee has met and discussed this
draft. Their conclusions to date were prioritized to work towards
dealing with the following six priorities:
The top 6 priorities for needed changes were:
1. Reopen 616 to 614 to 611 routes (from Plumas N.F. into Grassy Lake)
2. Reopen 519 from Spring Valley to Campbell Cow Camp for two track.
3. Re-work and make possible improved number of campsites at Spring
Valley, Long Lake and Campbell Lakes
4. Reposition or reroute, repair what is necessary to keep west
shore of Long Lake open
5. Raise the limit of 12 heartbeats / 4 vehicles at some / most
camp sites
6. Work to eliminate seasonal closures, eliminate gates
Don't forget to review the draft further and point out any other
concerns you have and bring them forward sooner rather than later...
later being too close to Jan. 15th. Get your comments, questions and
changes pertaining to the draft and "their" plan to us at
draftplan@friendsofthehighlakes.comwe can put them all together, and speak louder as one voice.
If we don't get OUR plan together, we will be living with theirs! Don't
let the holidays and other priorities get in the way of what will shape
your recreation opportunities in The High Lakes for a long time to come.
