Basically, Adopt-A-Trail (AAT) takes ":ownership" and "responsibility" for the maintenance and upkeep of a particular area. Generally speaking it means clearing down trees, repairing those places we *can* repair, asking for L.N.F. for those we can't. Cleaning rubbish and cans where possible. In essence we'd be the eyes and ears for L.N.F. on "our" trail. These are somethings we do anyway, every time we are there.
The Cal4Wheel Standard Operating Procedures state that we apply through the Natural Resource Consultant for an area. And that it must be coordinated with the Land Management Agency (L.N.F.) I have written to the Consultant asking for the paperwork, and his help. It is a man I brought into Cal4Wheel in 1976 or so, when I was North District Membership Chairman, so I've known him for a while.
Incidentally, when I was President of Cal4Wheel I help put together the AAT with Washington D.C. Department of Interior, and actually signed the Memorandum of Understanding that made the concept reality in about 1979.
I've started the process, but it doesn't mean we need to complete it or even proceed with it, but we can't do anything without starting there.
Oh, 'ya, one other thing. So far as I know, every AAT project has been with a Cal4Wheel *club*, so we'd be breaking ground in that area, too. I know at least two of us *are* Cal4Wheel members, Chicomecha and myself, but I'm not sure what we'd have to do to be considered.
