ALERT - Important Meeting

This meeting is important.  It is important even if YOU don't have a green sticker vehicle, those of the 4 wheel persuasion need to support ATV / MC / side-by-sides and the snowmobiler if we expect them to help us.

On Tuesday, November 18, the Butte County Board of Supervisors is considering approving and writing a letter to Region 5, USFS to allow use of Green Sticker vehicles use of roads considered ML 3 & 4, which currently has major limitations.

An example:  a green sticker ATV / MC / snowmobile / truggie / buggie / juggie are not allowed to ride / drive from Inskip to The High Lakes, or from Philbrook Lake or Butte Meadows to The High Lakes because Region 5, USFS has declared no use of ML 3 & 4 roads by these vehicles. Unless you and all OHV users wishing to go to the High Lakes and tow / trailer TO The Lotts Lake T, this is an issue YOU need to be involved with changing.

Two Butte County Supervisors have drafted a letter to USFS, Region 5 to allow such use on ML 3 & 4 roads in Butte County.  A .pdf copy of this letter is here:

Several other Counties have already approved such a letter to be sent. If all of the Counties were on board with this action, it would / could take the wind out of the sails of Region 5.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

This action item needs to have every OHV person possible to come to the Board of Supervisors meeting to show our support for this letter to be approved by the full board and sent.

We have been informed the opposition WILL be there in force, and we need to do the same.

The BOS meeting starts at 9:00 am  and it is felt this agenda item should be herd about 10:00 and certainly before the lunch break.

The meeting will be held in the BOS Chambers at:

Board of Supervisors Room,
County Administration Building,
25 County Center Drive,
Oroville.

Please if at all possible, make plans and bring your family and friends to this meeting and support the two Supervisors who do support this to KNOW WE CARE, and MATTER.  And help to get other Supervisors on board as well.

At this point, no.  The point was to show support at the BOS meeting, that it wasn't an idea floated without major OHV-peeps supporting it.  Hopefully a few speaking to the absolute need.

I'm aware of about 5 people, so far,  I hoped it would be 5 to 10 times that,  but knowing full well that to afford this sport / hobby it takes working.

One thought here is that it "appears" the Feds are about enforcing the states laws, and a County doesn't get a say?  That needs to change!

This hearing / meeting is what that is about.

We got something done today too.

Went to the Board of Supervisors meeting this morning.  Raised 17 speakers to the microphone.  Got a unanimous decision to send the letter to Region 5  stay off "our" roads with your actions.

We supported Kim Yamaguchi and he supported us.

Even Jane Dolan didn't have the guts to stand up against us.  She didn't  have the usual courage to vote no to OHV people.  No opposition was willing to come to the mic.

The meeting with the Butte County Supervisors went very well.   There was quite a group there.  A mix of FOTHL folks, Butte Meadows Hillsliders (a snowmobile club), One from Sacramento representing CORVA, one from Anderson representing ROC, and several others.

18 came to the microphone, and spoke.

We got a unanimous approval to send the letter to Region 5 that says essentially, Butte County will control Butte County roads.

Also had a meeting Thursday with USFS LEO, and he says it isn't his highest priority, either.

Here's the rub though.   Green Stickers are controlled by California OHMVR and that is where the 3 mile limit is placed.  But the good news is that until recently green stickers could do more than CROSS a "Highway", now can ride up to three miles *IF* the ride terminates in a legal OHV area.   The High Lakes has too many, (from the Inskip direction) sections of more than three miles.

At this point CHP is declaring all Level ML 3 & 4 roads as HIGHWAYS, so they fall under the 3 mile limit.

Confusing, yes,  and there is more to settle down until it is solved.  We have several Law Enforcement entities still pointing fingers at each other.  CHP / USFS / OHMVR / County SO  and none with the final authority or solution.

Stay tuned, it ain't over yet.

But do what you can to remain as legal as you can.  Get registrations legal, try to obey the laws as they are written, watch the CVC violation areas:  open containers, tags, helmets on open vehicles, (with no roll cages), speeding, reckless   all the things that can't be done while on street licensed vehicles anyway, and you will be safe(er).
