forest service like to waste money
« on: July 24, 2009, 04:02:38 am »
The forest service has been doing rehab work around the burned area near Ragdump. Last week while out riding around to see what they are doing I see these huge rocks blocking off the entrance to one of are bike trails. There was enough room for a Quad or bike ,so I go down the road (use to be a trail) I get to the point where we use to have a log bridge crossing a creek we made years ago. There's this steel bridge that must have cost them 50 grand to build I really have no idea but it was over kill big time . They made the rest of the trail 1 1/2 miles wide enough to drive a motor home down. It is no longer a trail but a road what the hell are we going to do with this? They must have spent there entire budget on this one place

Howard,

What is the route NUMBER of that?

My guess is that it is Plumas N.F., though...  and that they have  $ 51 M from Storrie fire money to spend to "replace lost recreational opportunities" from that year 2000 fire.

Very nice looking bridge !

PM me, if you'd rather keep it a secret ?

Does it serve Flea Mountain communications services, then?

Where does it terminate?  If it isn't a "trail", then do you think it will be classed a USFS System Road?

It starts down from Flea mountain on Dixie road about a mile down Dixie Road just stays on the opposite side of Dog wood Creek then the Bridge in the picture crosses the creek and just comes back onto Dixie Road again,it was a single track trail but they made it 30 feet wide and narrowed the bridge so nothing bigger than a Quad can go across and the far end has large rocks blocking the road with an opening big enough for a Quad. The trail serves no purpose now we used it for a connector to get to another trail system. They may think it's a trail but you don't need 30 feet to ride your bike or Quad on. I just found it on the Plumas OHV map the number is 23no1
